Hello everyone! I hope you’re doing great.
I love to draw, and there’s something truly special about the feeling of being completely immersed in my artwork. That state of focus is incredibly rewarding.
When I first started drawing, I chose flowers as my subject. They are relatively simple, making them a great starting point for beginners. Of course, some flowers are quite complex, but like with anything else, it’s best to start with the basics before progressing to more intricate designs.
One habit that has significantly improved my drawing skills is warming up before starting a piece. Warm-ups help loosen my grip and enhance my control over lines. My go-to warm-up exercises include drawing circles and straight lines while focusing on moving my hand from the shoulder rather than the wrist. This technique prevents shaky or wobbly lines and builds confidence in stroke execution over time.

I once came across an analogy on Instagram that perfectly illustrates this concept: Imagine you’re about to give a big presentation. You wouldn’t just walk on stage without preparation—you’d rehearse multiple times to ensure a smooth delivery. The same applies to drawing. Before diving into your main artwork, warming up and sketching a few quick studies can set the foundation for better results.

Since incorporating these exercises into my routine, I’ve noticed a significant improvement in my drawings. I feel more confident in my strokes, and I’m much more satisfied with how my artwork turns out. If you’re looking to improve your drawing skills, I highly recommend making warm-ups a daily habit!
In my next post, I’ll be sharing the specific exercises I use and explaining how each one helps improve different aspects of your drawing experience and overall art skills. Stay tuned!
